Blood clots are mostly good.
After an injury, your blood has to solidify, but also clump together at that very spot so that it can act and stop the bleeding.
Unfortunately, clots can also crop up when we don’t need them and that can be very dangerous.

Especially when they form deeply in the veins of our muscles. It can also be pretty painful.
The name of this health problem is deep vein thrombosis, or shortened, DVT. These resemble roadblocks on your blood highway because they prevent the blood flow which maintains our system up and running, but also causes traffic jams in our circulation.
If the DVT somehow gets away from the spot where it originated, it can be very serious and dangerous, especially if it goes into your lungs.

It causes the appearance of a condition called a pulmonary embolism (PE). That’s actually a clot which prevents these vital organs to get their very important oxygen and blood.
That can cause a great damage to our lungs as well as other organs and it can even be fatal.
There are people who are more susceptible to DVT than other people, so it’s very important to know some of the most common risk factors.
There are also some warning signs you can notice. The most important thing is to look for a treatment on time.
Be careful for these 6 signs:
SWELLING IN ONE LIMB
One arm or leg which is somehow puffy is the most common sign of DVT.
It usually appears because a blood clot is blocking the “Blood clots can block the healthy flow of blood in that arm or leg and in turn causes swelling.
If this puffy limb appears with pain in one side of your body, you need to be very suspicious.
LEG OR ARM PAIN
The pain caused by DVT usually appears with many symptoms like redness and swelling. Unfortunately, it can also appear alone, so that’s why people easily mistaken it for muscle strain or cramp.
DVT pain mostly appears when your leg is upwards or you’re walking.
REDNESS ON YOUR SKIN
Bruises are one type of blood clots, but you don’t have to worry about them since DVT can’t be seen. A bruise-discoloration might appear, but red is the most common color which appears.
Redness is caused in the affected limb by DVTs. They also make your arm or leg warm when you touch it.
CHEST PAIN
Even though chest pain is one of the most common signs of a heart attack, it could also signify the appearance of pulmonary embolism. The symptoms are quite similar.
The pain caused by PE is sharp as well as stabbing and you feel worse at the moment you want to take a deep breath.
While heart attack causes pain in the upper part of your body: jaw, neck and shoulders, PE pain becomes worse with each breath you take. You should call an ambulance in each one of the cases, though!
SHORTNESS OF BREATH OR A RACING HEART
When a blood clot is in your lung, it slows down your oxygen flow.
Then your heart rate increases, because it wants to make up for the shortage of oxygen. You start feeling a flutter in your chest and you especially have difficulties while you’re breathing deeply. You might also faint. If the symptoms appear very suddenly, seek for immediate help!
UNEXPLAINED COUGH
If you cough constantly and can’t explain it, it might be PE. It will also appear with chest pain, shortness of breath or high heart rate. The cough that appears is usually dry, but there are some patients which cough up blood or mucus, so be careful!
