Eggs are rich in proteins and a lot of experts agree that proteins are a better choice for breakfast than processed cereals full of sugars. And it’s the best way to get your weight under control. Contrary to popular belief, eggs aren’t bad for your heart, so you can consume them regularly.
If you’re a fan of eggs and eat them on a regular basis you probably see the following oddity quite often.
The Chalaza…

Every once in a while you’ve probably cracked an egg and wondered what in the world is that gooey string inside? It looks disgusting!

Well, you can relax and cook the egg anyways, because that white gooey thing is called the chalaza (pronounced: cuh-lay-zuh) and is safe to consume.
Even though it looks weird, that’s not the umbilical cord. Maybe this image will better explain what it is:The chalazae (plural), keep the egg yolk in place and can be found on both sides of the yolk. And the fun part is that the more visible the chalazae are, the fresher the eggs are.
It turns out that these little strings disappear as the egg matures, so if there is no chalaza in your egg it’s probably not as fresh. It means that the egg has been shelved for a longer period of time. So next time you crack an egg know what you should look for!
